Heechan Park, Time for Trees
Heechan Park’s Time for Trees consists of architectural apparatuses responding to the trees and vegetation of the Giardini—elements deeply embedded in the architectural identity of the Korean Pavilion. Emphasizing the pavilion’s architectural transparency that embraces the surrounding woods, Time for Trees is centrally positioned in the pavilion. The installation, comprising variable installations and drawings, invites visitors to actively capture the natural landscape of the Giardini gardens, including the shifting patterns of tree shadows. The installation consists of three devices:A Shadow Caster, Giardini Travelers, and Elevated Gaze 1995. Each device serves as a multi-sensorial mediator between the interior and exterior boundaries of the pavilion. Through these interventions, Time for Trees gazes into the trees of the Giardini, the unchanging presence within the ever-shifting context of La Biennale where new people and things come and go every year. Time for Trees ultimately draws attention to the common order, a shared physical context not only for the Korean Pavilion but also for every national pavilion in the Giardini.
